Dramatic without being hostile
The external form is strong — hard lines, deliberate mass, a dark palette that sets the building against the grey-greens of the bush behind it. But it invites rather than intimidates. The lines pull you toward the entry instead of holding you at the boundary.
That distinction is the whole discipline. Dark architecture fails when it reads as a fortress.
Inside
High ceilings over polished concrete. An open-plan kitchen in dark stone with Miele appliances. Honed stone through the bathrooms. Vertical groove feature walls in the bedrooms, taking their cue directly from the external cladding so the language holds from the street to the pillow.
Australian spotted gum brings timber warmth appropriate to the native setting, and LED feature lighting works with — never against — the very large supply of natural light.
