We are a small practice building work that leaves nowhere to hide. That demands a particular kind of person.
Who does well here
Dark architecture is unforgiving. A black wall shows every misalignment. A concealed fixing is either perfect or it is a defect. A shadow gap that drifts two millimetres is visible for the life of the building.
The people who do well at Darkitecture are the ones who find that motivating rather than exhausting — who will pull something apart because it is three millimetres out, when nobody else would have noticed.
What we look for
- Obsession with tolerance and finish, particularly where it will never be measured
- The judgement to raise a problem early rather than resolve it quietly and badly
- Respect for the trades either side of your own work
- Comfort with a narrow material palette and a very high standard within it
Where we work
Across Tasmania — most of our completed work is around Launceston and the Tamar Valley, with work in Hobart, on the east coast and as far out as the Tasman Peninsula.
